A multimedia artist blending storytelling and art to connect people through authentic expressions of identity, love, and culture across writing, photography, and visual media.
I am a middle eastern multimedia artist with a BA in Film and Media Studies and Writing and Civic Engagement from UCSB. My creative journey began with a love for storytelling, inspired by my travels to Tanzania and Morocco, where the intricate layers of people and landscapes left an indelible mark on me. These encounters deepened my desire to explore the depth and complexities of our cultures in new ways.
Influenced by critical works like Edward Said's Orientalism and Jack G. Shaheen’s Reel Bad Arabs, I became truly aware of the power of representation in shaping perspectives. I wanted to rethink how our stories are told - using storytelling as a means for connection.
My last name, Abajian, means “maker of garments,” a reminder of my Jido, a tailor whose hands crafted stories into fabric. Like him, I craft with my hands and heart, creating art that speaks to the beauty and richness of MENA culture. My work is a celebration of authenticity, connection, and the transformative power of storytelling. I am eager to create and collaborate within more MENA artistic spaces, where our beautifully complex voices can unfold and transform.
